Review: Adele Returns with ‘Hello’

Late last night, English singer-songwriter and ten-time Grammy award winner, Adele, sent fans into a frenzy after she released the song and video for ‘Hello’ – the first single off her highly anticipated new album 25.

Hello. It’s me,” the songstress appropriately murmurs as she leads into the first song she has released since 2012.

Her soulful voice is instantly recognizable as she powers her way through the song.

Hello from the outside/At least I can say that I’ve tried” the heart grabbing chorus begins. “To tell you I’m sorry, for breaking your heart/ But, it don’t matter, it clearly doesn’t tear you apart anymore“.

‘Hello’ brings all the elements that make a classic and tear-jerking Adele song great together for a triumphant introduction to 25.

And with every belt, Adele channels the emotion of a woman who longs to reconnect with a past relationship, but her partner is not receptive.

Relatable, passionate and ominously thunderous, ‘Hello’ showcases Adele at her best.

An ordinary experience suddenly becomes an extraordinary venture with this track.

If ‘Hello’ is any indication of what to expect from 25 then the long wait for her return will be more than worth it.

Don’t believe me? Listen for yourself.

Adele’s highly anticipated ’25’ is set for release on Nov. 25th.

Countdown To #PrettyGirls: Iggy’s Best Collabs

Less than a month from now the world will be graced with the newest single from Britney Spears featuring Iggy Azalea – “Pretty Girls”.

Spears and Azalea were spotted on the set of the song’s new music video in Los Angeles over the weekend.

Working totally 80’s fashions and hairstyles, the two mounted the back of a red convertible as they were driven down Sunset Blvd. singing the song’s lyrics.

This isn’t either of the musicians first time collaborating with another artist. It is, however, the first time Azalea has directed another artist’s video.

Azalea has collaborated with more than a hand full of musicians from Ariana Grande to T.I., so we counted down her top 5 collaborations based on YouTube.com views.

5. “Murder Business” ft. T.I.

Rapper T.I. has been credited with the discovery of Azalea since she first began to strut her way onto the music scene in 2011. The song itself is your run-of-the-mill rap song that has an infectious beat complimented by catchy lyrics. However, what sets this song apart is the video which pokes fun at child beauty pageants and shows such as “Toddlers and Tiaras”.

4. “Beg For It” ft. M0

Though the official video for this song was scrapped due to it “not needing to be done” according to Azalea, the song itself still saw much success on radio airways. The song peaked at No. 3 on the US Hot Dance Club Chart. Azalea brought aboard new artist M0 who delivers the chorus of this track.

3. “Black Widow” ft. Rita Ora

Azalea followed up the massive success of “Fancy” (see below) for another collaboration. This time with British pop singer Rita Ora. The video for the song pays homage to Quentin Tarantino’s film Kill Bill. The two women are dressed in outfits similar to that worn by Uma Thurman in the film and fight in a similar fashion. “Black Widow” peaked at No. 1 on multiple Billboard charts. The song is now one of Azalea’s signature tracks.

2. “Problem” ft Ariana Grande

Okay, so this song isn’t headlined by Azalea herself, but it is no denying that Ariana Grande helped usher Azalea into a  whole new level of super stardom. Her feature on this track helped the song hit No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart and No. 1 on the US Rhythmic Chart. It is no doubt that without Azalea this track would not be the same.

1. “Fancy” ft. Charlie XCX

The breakout hit from Azalea has got to be without a doubt “Fancy”. Until releasing this song, Azalea struggled to find success with her previous singles. However, the song’s dancefloor beats and catchy lyrics paved the way for Azalea’s chart takeover. Not to mention she took advantage of the recent revival of 90’s fashion with the video that perfectly pays homage to the iconic 1995 film Clueless. The song hit No.1 on almost every US Billboard Chart and was named the 2014 “song of the summer” by Rolling Stone Magazine. It is Azalea’s defining song.

Azalea’s latest collaboration with Spears is set to be released on May 5.

Countdown To Vegas: 6 Memorable Britney Performances

Britney-Spears-Snake-900-600Only six days left until we are in Las Vegas, NV. for Britney SpearsBritney: Piece of Me show. To coincide with the countdown we put together a list of the icon’s most memorable performances of her career… so far!

Since bursting onto the scene in 1998 with her Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 debut single “…Baby One More Time“, Britney Spears has delivered some of the most iconic and memorable stage performances our generation has seen. From show stopping classroom dance battles to a sexy snake charming routine, Britney has a dominating stage presence that is only rivaled by the likes Madonna and Janet Jackson.

6. …Baby One More Time LIVE at the 1999 VMAs

In 1999, a young-faced Britney stormed out from behind a set of lockers and struck a pose that would be forever ingrained into the minds of fans across the globe. This performance was just a taste of what Britney planned on bringing to the MTV Video Music Awards in years to come. But, for the time, the performance kept fans more than satisfied. Oh yeah, not to mention after her part of the performance boy band N*Sync took the stage. But, feel free to skip the ending.

5. I Can’t Get No Satisfaction/Oops!…I Did It Again Live at the 2000 VMAs

Fast forward one year later to the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. It was this year that Britney stole the show. She did so with this show stopping strip tease that was packed full of high energy dancing, great vocals and a level of fierceness that could not have been delivered to the VMA stage by anyone else but Britney. Take a look!

4. The Way You Make Me Feel LIVE at the 30th Anniversary Michael Jackson Special

Some of Britney’s biggest fans aren’t even just regular people like you and I. They are in fact big named celebrities like the late King of Pop Michael Jackson. In 2002, Jackson asked Britney to join him on stage for a special rendition of The Way You Make Me Feel” – one of Jackson’s biggest hits. The performance was one that brought generations together to dance and celebrate the two musicians. Enjoy!

3. Gimme More Live at the 2007 VMAs

“Not every performance can be a good performance. You will have some amazing performances and then you’ll also have some okay ones,” Britney said in her 2008 documentary Britney: For the Record of her 2007 performance of her song “Gimme More”. After shaving her head, beating up a car with an umbrella and basically going a-wall, Britney agreed to open the show. The performance would go down in history as one of the biggest flop performances of not only her career, but in VMA history. Many saw this as a turning point in the world of Britney. And it became one of the most publicized and talked about performances ever. The show saw a 53% jump in viewership from the year before. Behold the power of Britney – even at her worst she still was iconic.

2.Like a Virgin/Hollywood LIVE at the 2003 VMAs

There has only been one artist who has had the privilege to perform alongside both Michael Jackson and Madonna – Britney Spears. Not only did Britney get the chance to perform with Madonna, but she also KISSED her in what would become one of the most talked about female to female kisses of all time. The media frenzy that erupted after THE KISS was unprecedented. Controversy has always surrounded Britney, but the kiss took her to a whole new level of syndication. Oh yeah, Christina Aguilera was there too, but no one cared and still doesn’t. #SorryChristina

1. I’m a Slave 4 U LIVE at the 2001 VMAs

Despite her controversial 2000 VMA striptease, Britney was still struggling with separating herself with the “good innocent girl next door” image she had built up for herself with her first two albums. However, her 2001 debut performance of her hit song “I’m a Slave 4 U” would do just that. The performance was a perfect representation of everything that makes Britney Spears one of the greatest performers of our time – high energy dance moves, great visuals and sexy costumes. But, perhaps the most iconic and memorable moment of the performance was when Spears strutted across the stage wearing a live yellow boa constrictor named Banana. The image of her singing and dancing across the stage with the snake has been used and redone many times in popular culture since. Behold, the best of Spears with her 2001 MTV Video Music Awards performance of “I’m a Slave 4 U”.

Britney Watch: 3 New Songs Registered on BMI

On Feb. 14 Britney Spears fan-site BritneyGalaxy.com announced that there has been three new Britney songs registered on BMI.com.

BMI is a webpage that dedicates itself to the archiving of every song ever written, recorded and finalized by artists and musicians across the globe.

More importantly, the site has been known to publish the names of unreleased songs before they are released to the general public for purchase.

These three new songs were added to the official Britney Spears page on Valentine’s Day as an almost gift to the #BritneyArmy.

_________

1.FATHERS EYES

Writers:

  • Birgisson Arnthor
  • Wroldsen Ina Christine

2. Forgiven

Writers:

  • Shelly Peiken

3.Just Let Me Go

Writers:

  • J.R. Rotem
  • Evan “E. Kidd” Bogart

Spears has worked with these writers before on past projects. An interesting tidbit about “Father’s Eyes” is that it has already been recorded and released by an artist named Ask Embla.

Spears has taken a relatively unknown song and recorded it for herself before. Her 2008 album Circus included the track “Out From Under” which was originally recorded by another artist and then re-recorded by Spears for official release.

The three new registered songs are just the first glimpse into the new era of music that follows Spears’ 2013 effort and certified flop Britney Jean.

Spears said in an interview late last year that she had begun recording for the new album and that she hopes for it to have an “artsy-fartsy” feel to it.

Well, in the meantime, all of us eagerly await to hear the new jams.

The Grammys 2015: Who Should Win and Why

So, it is that special time of year again. The time of year when all of our favorite pop acts come together and celebrate the year in music and the best of the best are awarded with coveted Grammy.

This past year, the world of pop music has seen some pretty amazing acts.

We saw the birth of Australian raptress Iggy Azalea. We saw the birth of Meghan Trainor and all her bass, hips and lips. We saw Beyonce… oh, did we see Beyonce. And, we can not forget, we saw Country teen dream Taylor Swift morph herself into a 1989 pop phenom. It’s been a great year. But who did 2014 the best? I’m here to break down my picks and why I think they deserve to win. And, if they don’t, it is because the awards are rigged and no one likes to see Beyonce or her dad (who is a voting member of the Grammy council) mad.

** = who I want to win

* = who could possibly win

Best Pop Solo Performance
All Of Me (Live)- John Legend
Chandelier – Sia**
Stay With Me (Darkchild Version) – Sam Smith*
Shake It Off – Taylor Swift
Happy (Live) – Pharrell Williams

Past winners of this category include Macy Gray and Christina Aguilera, two powerhouse vocalist. Based on that fact, I’d say Sam Smith is set to win this category. However, I’d love to see “I won’t show my face” queen Sia win an award just because I would love to see if see gives her acceptance speech facing away from the crowd.

Best Pop Duo/Group Performance

Iggy Azalea ft. Charlie XCX – Fancy**
Coldplay –  A Sky Full of Stars
A Great Big World ft. Christina Aguilera – Say Something*
Jessie ft. Ariana Grande + Nicki Minaj – Bang Bang

Katy Perry ft. Juicy J – Dark Horse

This category is quite lackluster. Due to the fact that “Fancy” reigned supreme in 2014, I’d love to see Iggy win. Plus, she is such a baddie I just want to hear her acceptance speech and hear that glorious Australian accent! And though I do love me so Katy Perry, “Dark Horse” does not hold a candle to “Fancy”. However, the Grammy’s have blinded us before and gone with the less interesting couplings. In this case, A Great Big World ft. Christina Aguilera. But, if Aguilera won another Grammy that means I lose my six year bet with my mom! THIS CAN NOT HAPPEN!

Best Pop Vocal Album

Coldplay – Ghoststories
Miley Cyrus – Bangerz
Ariana Grande – My Everything
Katy Perry – Prism
Ed Sheeran – X
Sam Smith – In The Lonely Hour**/*

This is an easy one – Sam Smith. And he probably will win. Compared to the other acts in this group, Sam Smith’s In The Lonely Hour trumps over them all vocally. Miley has done way better vocal presentations then anything that can be found on Bangerz and Ariana Grande’s My Everything is really nothing compared to Smith’s effort. And don’t even get me started on Prism.

Record of The Year

Iggy Azalea ft Charlie XCX – Fancy**
Sia – Chandelier
Sam Smith – Stay With Me*
Taylor Swift – Shake It Off
Meghan Trainor – All About That Bass

Though I do love me some Taylor Swift pop music delights, her latest effort 1989 and all the offerings from it are too new to be considered for “Record of The Year” award in my opinion. Though, Swift is the only artist in the category to really have a large catalog of music behind them. So, I rule outShake It Off”. Again, I would love to see “Fancy” win because I’ve been a huge supporter of miss I G G Y since her Ignorant Art EP. However, the vocal ability and success of Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me” is undeniable. So, he’ll probably be the winner, which I am absolutely okay with.

Album of The Year

Beck – Morning Phase
Beyonce – Beyonce*
Ed Sheeran – X
Sam Smith –  In The Lonely Hour**
Pharrell Williams – Girl

Why is Beyonce’s album nominated? That album, a masterpiece indeed, came out two years ago. We all know it is only nominated this year because her daddy is up in there whipping all that work for his baby girl. In other words: CONFLICT OF INTEREST. I don’t think she’ll win considering she’s up against Sam Smith, but she is Beyonce and Beyonce is a female version of a hustla. I want Sam Smith to win because that album as a whole deserves to be praised and recognized for it’s deep, true and artistic content. However, Beyonce is Beyonce and Beyonce gets what Beyonce wants. Beyonce.

The 2015 Grammys are set to air Sunday Feb. 8 at 8 p.m. on CBS.

Living For Love: Madonna is back.

Red leaf

********

Like a bitch out of war…

Like a bat out of hell…

Like a fish out of water…

Madonna is back with the first single off of her latest and recently leaked album, Rebel Heart.

“Living For Love” is a perfect reminder to all who question Madge’s relevancy and potential that she is and forever will be the Queen of Pop.

And, as Nicki Minaj once said, there’s only one queen and that’s Madonna, bitchhhhh!

“Living For Love” is a song about moving on from a bad break up (we can all relate).

“I’m living for love, living for love. I’m not giving up. I’m gonna carry on…!

Originally debuting on popular social app SnapChat, the video is a glorious representation of not only the message of the song, but of Madonna’s showmanship as a whole.

Take a look for yourself and behold the greatness that has and always will be Madonna.

Katy Perry and The Great Super Bowl 49 Halftime Show

Before I begin this post I would like to say one thing to all of my 10’s of readers.

Welcome.

We are now living in what is the world after the Katy Perry halftime show.

Welcome.

On Sunday night, a recording breaking 114.4 million people tuned in to Super 49, according to a NBC Nielsen Scan report.

The viewership surged to 118 million during the “Wide Awake” singer’s show that included cameos from a fresh-faced Lenny Kravitz and an energized Missy Elliot.

Perry’s set showcased exactly what we all love about the “California Girl” – catchy music, a vibrant electrical stage presentation and an undeniable stage presence that left the University of Phoenix Stadium cheering.

Katy’s set opened up with the lead single of her latest album Prism – “Roar“.

“Super bowl are you ready to roar!?”

Perry shouted a top of a ginormous mechanical metallic tiger that was maneuvered across the field by an entourage of people disguised in black body suits (but it looked so real).

Wearing a flame-inspired costume, Perry belted out the Billboard Hot 100 no.1 hit that finished with a massive, well, roar.

Just as soon as the song ended, the stadium transformed from a lion’s den in to an electrical chess board.

Blue colors and lights pulsated throughout the arena as Perry’s dancers, dressed as chess game pieces, began undulating their bodies to “Dark Horse” – the songstress’ latest song to reach the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Paired with tight, but minimal, choreography, Perry moves through the song skillfully.

Relying on the back track to deliver most of the song’s lyrical content, Perry let out “oh’s” and “ah’s” for the song and at points, showed her fans that no one can do Katy Perry background vocals better than herself.

It is at this point in the set that Perry is joined by her first guest star of the night – a guitar wielding Lenny Kravitz.

Dropping to her knees and whipping her pony tail several times, Perry was accompanied by Kravitz to sing “I Kissed A Girl” – Perry’s first single to reach no. 1 on the Billboard charts in 2008.

Next, another stage change and a first costume change brought Perry back onto the main platform where she performed a medley of her hits “Teenage Dream” and “California Girls“.

Dressed in a beach-ball themed dress, Perry turned her mic outward to the arena during California Girls and asked the crowd to sing the lyrics.

It was obvious at this point that the arena had been transformed from football fans to “KatyCats” because the response to her music was so unanimous and loud it was as if every single person in the arena knew the lyrics verbatim.

Dancing surfboards, palm trees, beach balls and sharks (left shark slays) all gyrated on stage alongside perry for the beach-side set.

Perry blew through a large portion of her music catalog at this point in the show. So, what does she do? Brings out another artist to sing their songs with – namely Missy Elliot.

Wearing an over-sized “Katy Perry 49” jacket, Perry joined Elliot for renditions of Elliot’s hits “Get Your Freak On” and “Work It“.

Perry’s minimal dancing disappeared to virtually nothing as she swung her arms and dropped her body a few times throughout the set.

However, whatever dance presentation Perry lacked, it was impressively made up for by Elliot and her group of robo-cop dressed dancers.

Like a scene out of a tron video game, Elliot continued on to “Lose Control” while Perry fled off screen.

Delivering rap lyrics atop of the infectious beat of the 2005 dance anthem, Elliot was a moment to be remembered from the entire show.

Flashing her bright smile, Elliot waved to the applauding audience members as the camera moved to another platform.

It was here that Perry began to sing arguably the biggest hit of her career – “Firework“.

Wearing a silver star sequined dress (yes, another costume change), Perry was attached to a floating star.

As she sang the song, her vocals were some of the most impressive live efforts observed by fans from her for quite sometime.

As Perry reached the chorus of the Billboard Hot 100 no. hit, she was lifted across the arena on shooting star as fireworks exploded all around the arena.

It was a spectacle.

“Thank you Super Bowl and God Bless America!”

The powerhouse shouted as the halftime show, that would rival that of Madonna and Beyonce of former years, came to a glittery end.

Watch the full show here and enjoy.

Katy Perry’s Prism was released on October 16th, 2013.
